The Foundation Continues to Serve the Profession!
A message from April Berkol, P.E., Chair of the SFPE Educational and Scientific Foundation Board of Governors.
Our mission is, "To advance the science and practice of Fire Protection Engineering internationally, by advocating and supporting engineering research, technology transfer and education".
This continues to be an exciting time to be a fire protection engineer! The knowledge base of our profession is growing rapidly. Engineering methods are continually becoming more robust. The value of fire protection engineers to employers and clients is progressing dramatically. The potential future growth of fire protection engineering is enormous!
The Educational & Scientific Foundation serves to protect the Heritage of the fire protection engineering profession and to enhance the Legacy of our generation of fire protection engineers to future generations.
The Foundation is currently involved in several projects that serve both the Heritage and Legacy of the profession. The Foundation is sponsoring development of a reference publication on Fire Risk Assessment by Dr. David Yung. The publication is expected to be published in 2007. This will contribute to our Legacy. There is a student grant project in progress to further investigate structural failure of the World Trade Center. this project i scheduled for completion in mid year. This will also contribute to our Legacy. An exciting project in progress is updating DETACT to an EXCEL based spreadsheet calculation form with numerous user guide statements. This both protects our Heritage and contribute to our Legacy. The Foundation is teaming with NIST to publish a series of fire test reports that have not been proviously published. Some of the scientific basis of our professional practice are included in these reports. This peoject will protect the Heritage fire protection engineering. These are indeed exciting projects and valuable contributions to the Society and profession.
The Foundation needs support of Society members, affiliates, chapter and corporate sopnsors to conrinut to maximize service to the profession. To support the SFPE Education & Scientific Foundation with a tax deductible contribution,
