How to Prepare for the P.E. Exam Seminar (day 1 of 3)

Description: The goal of this three-day course is to assist each attendee in formulating a preparation strategy for obtaining a passing grade in the FPE P.E. Exam or to self-assess readiness to attempt the exam. It also serves as a good general overview of fire protection engineering principles.

Course scope includes an overview of the P.E. exam process, a review of each of the five broad fire protection topics comprising the technical scope of the exam, and discussion of resource materials such as handbooks and the NFPA fire codes. The course will be a sample test workshop, including determining the solution to a sample problem from each of the subject areas.

It is important that the participant understand that completing this course is not sufficient preparation for the exam on its own. The participant should be prepared to commit to 200-300 hours of self-study. In three days the course will present sample material from topics that comprise an undergraduate fire protection engineering program and therefore represents only a sampling of possible exam material.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the scope of the PE Exam in FPE and the level of knowledge needed to be successful
  • Understand the prerequisites to take the exam and how to register for the exam
  • Understand the self-study commitment needed to pass the exam
  • Learn strategies to maximize the chances of passing the exam
  • Understand sample subject matter from each of the five broad exam topics
  • Gain experience solving problems at ne speed necessary to pass the exam

Who Should Attend? Anyone preparing for the PE Exam, or anyone needing a refresher including existing engineers, fire marshals, and loss control specialists: participants will come away with the understanding of the principles of fire protection engineering, and even if you are not taking the exam this year, but want to assess your readiness for a future exam, this online PE exam prep course will provide you with a fundamental understanding of the principles of fire protection engineering.

Materials Needed:

Professional Development Hours (PDHs): SFPE will award 21 PDHs for attending the entire seminar.
