Seeking ABET Evaluator
Thursday, February 23, 2017
ABET accreditation is desirable when selecting a college program, especially in engineering. This accreditation verifies that a college program includes the necessary coursework so that graduates are prepared to enter the workforce in their chosen field.
SFPE is seeking a fire protection engineer to evaluate the University of Maryland program in the fall of 2017. To become an evaluator you need to attend ABET training (online and onsite face-to-face). It is a significant time commitment. More information can be found at
ABET does pay travel expenses to the face-to-face training, which will be held in Baltimore in spring 2017.
The evaluator must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a member of SFPE
- Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering
- Never attended the University of Maryland
- Does not live in Maryland
- Never donated to the University of Maryland
Mainly, we would like to have the evaluator in place for the Maryland program that will take place this fall. Although there is still time, there is a considerable amount of training needed before then.
After Maryland, there may be other opportunities to evaluate the OSU and EKU programs.
ABET accreditation is not possible without experts who are professionals from industry, academia and government dedicating their time for continued quality within the profession of fire protection engineering and other technical arenas.
