SFPE to Assist O*NET with an Important Initiative
Friday, April 7, 2017
SFPE has been asked to assist with an important initiative called O*NET (Occupational Information Network- www.onetonline.org ), a project for the U.S. Department of Labor and America's primary source of occupational information. O*NET is researching an occupational classification important to our membership: Fire-prevention and Protection Engineers. This is an update from the information collected with SFPE’s help in 2010.
SFPE has been asked to identify members with knowledge and expertise in this occupation to provide feedback on tasks, knowledge areas, work context factors, and activities. We would like to provide a list (name and contact information) of our professional and fellow members within the United States to the O*NET researchers at RTI International (Research Triangle Institute). They in turn will invite a random sample to provide input via questionnaires to keep information about this classification accurate and up-to-date. A Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Department of Labor and $40 in cash will be included with the questionnaires as a token of thanks.
If you are contacted by the O*NET liaisons we hope you will consider assisting with this important research as it will be of great benefit to the millions of students, job seekers and employers who use the free O*NET Database each year as a resource for career exploration and job analysis. If you would like to be excluded from the list we send to the O*NET researchers, please email Victoria Valentine (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the subject line “O*NET REMOVE” by April 28, 2017.
If you have questions about the O*NET research, please contact Traci Davis at RTI International at 877-233-7348 ext. 109 or email@example.com . Thank you for your support of this research and of our organization.
