The SFPE Foundation’s General Fund provides funding to support the Foundation’s mission through its operations as well as fund academic research grants to students worldwide.
Guylène Proulx Scholarship Fund » Donate Online
The Guylène Proulx Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Dr. Guylène Proulx, OC, one of the preeminent researchers and communicators in the field of human behavior in emergencies. This Scholarship honors her legacy by building on the research in her chosen profession. Donations to this fund provide a monetary award of up to $5,000 annually to the Proulx Award recipient, selected by a panel of human behavior experts.
Robert W. Fitzgerald Fund Challenge » Donate Online
April Hammond-Berkol created this donation challenge in tribute to retired WPI Professor Robert W. Fitzgerald. For every dollar donated to this fund, Hammond-Berkol will match one dollar, up to a maximum of $2,000 per year, for the next five years. Donations to this challenge will be used to sustain funding for the Guylène Proulx Scholarship.

The mission of the SFPE Foundation is to enhance the scientific understanding of fire and its interaction with the natural and built environment. As a corporate member of the fire protection engineering profession, you have a vested interest in this mission.
Human Behavior Fund
This research area is designated for exploring the human behaviors related to evacuation and egress from buildings. The need for research is related to the changing demographic of populations (age, stature, and mobility) and reflecting the data in egress and evacuation plans.
Fire Dynamics Fund
This research area is designated for practical fire models. Further understanding of the science and dynamics of fire can lead to improvements, especially with models, in reflecting real world fires. There are three components including creation of numerical algorithms, verification and validation of those models over a wide range of applications, and guidance for practicing engineers in applying the methods.

Fire Systems & Emergency Response Fund
This research area is designated for improving system performance against fire events. One of the key areas in need of additional data is inspection, testing and maintenance of systems. This will have broad reaching implications as fire protection systems are ancillary to all types of businesses and occupancies.
Forensics Fund

Non-Structure Fires Fund
This research area is designated for studying fires that do not involve buildings, such as wildland fires or energy storage systems. The need for research in this area is ever growing with the increasing wildland fires occurring annually around the globe and always evolving technologies such as energy sources. The fire safety engineering profession still needs a practical probabilistic-based approach or tools for handling these situations.

Resilience/Sustainability Fund
This research area is designated for environmental impacts from fire and fire suppression activities. There are unanswered questions on designs, materials, and systems where knowledge could improve the resiliency and sustainability of the protection methods and built structures.
