SFPE Perspective Series Sponsored Webinar: Sprinkler Protection of Storage Updates & Research from NFPA

Presented by David Hague, Principal Engineer - Building Fire Protection NFPA

The protection of stored commodities has long been a concern of the fire protection industry. As the materials being stored have evolved and the height of storage arrangements continue to increase, the requirements in NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems have also grown and evolved. The 2019 edition of NFPA 13 features a significant re-organization of the entire document including those for protection of storage.

This session will review the fundamental principles of the sprinkler protection of storage including commodity classification, storage arrangements, and the different sprinkler types available for designers. Recently completed and currently ongoing research projects will also be discussed

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the key design principles of providing sprinkler protection for storage
  • Identify the commodity classifications of storage
  • Review the different types of storage arrangements
  • Detail the new layout of the 2019 edition of NFPA 13 and organization of the requirements for storage
