Single Point Density

Presented by: Steven Wolin, Vice President, Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc.

Learn about how sprinkler technology and our experience developing design criteria is likely to change NFPA 13 requirements. For nearly 50 years, charts with density/area curves have been included in NFPA 13 that allow the sprinkler system designer to select a combination of sprinkler system design density and design area for a given hazard. Significant debate has occurred over the past 20 years on the continued use of density/area curves as opposed to NFPA 13 specifying a single design density and design area for a hazard (single-point density). The presentation will explore each side of this debate, the origins of density/area design criteria in NFPA 13, and potential changes to density/area storage criteria in the 2022 edition of NFPA 13.
