In this presentation, we will review findings from the SFPE Foundation funded research project “Environmental and Health Impacts of Fire and Fire Suppression Activities During Large-Scale Fire Events.” We will present findings from a review of the literature on the interaction of fire on the natural environment with a focus on the remote effects of large-scale fire events, both wildland and structural, on human health and natural resources such as air, water, and soil. We will also identify current systems and software that are used for monitoring these incidents as well as look at standards, industry best practices, and tools used to quantify the impact of large-scale fire events. The results of our gap analysis, which are future work recommendations, will also be presented.Learning Objectives:
