The Introduction of Polymeric Fire Sprinklers in NFPA13D Applications

When:  Dec 7, 2021 from 11:00 to 12:00 (ET)
In 1981 Grinnell Corporation received the first listing for a Residential Sprinkler for use in accordance with NFPA 13D Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes. For the past forty years manufactures have innovated on improving the performance of residential sprinklers, minimizing flow ates and pressures, increasing coverage areas and improving aesthetics. While materials other than metal have been used for piping in residential sprinkler systems, the sprinklers themselves have remained brass.

This presentation will introduce the first UL listed residential fire sprinkler comprised of mainly polymeric material. The presentation will describe the changes made to UL199 (formerly 1626) for the incorporation of tests to validate the performance of sprinklers comprised of polymeric material, details of the tests and their significance, and the overall benefits of the use of polymeric material.
