This #GivingTuesday, Please Consider Donating to the SFPE Foundation
Tuesday, December 1, 2015
The SFPE Foundation has had another successful year, which is a result of the generous giving of our donors, like you.
To date our partnership with Bentley Systems has provided over $75,000 to students who are researching ways to utilize building information modeling (BIM) as a means of improving infrastructure safety and fire service preparedness, through the Chief Donald J. Burns Memorial Research Grant. In 2015, we awarded Nahom Daniel from the Imperial College London $25,000 USD for development of the Fire Navigator, which forecasts fire dynamics in smart buildings using BIM.
This year we were also able to make our first Dr. Guylene Proulx, OC Scholarship award, in the amount of $5,000, which went to a student, Robert Brown at the University of Greenwich in the UK to support his research on human performance data from planned trials on passenger ships at sea. The SFPE Foundation also provided a student research grant in the amount of $15,000 to Egle Rackauskaite at Imperial College of London to support her research on travelling fires and $5,000 to WPI Department of Fire Protection Engineering to help support the completion of the textbook “Fire Performance Analysis for Buildings.”
Next year, we want to provide more scholarships and grants to our global research community and students to ensure a strong and vibrant profession.
All of the Foundation’s grants and scholarships are made possible through generous donations from people like you. Your commitment and support in our mission to advance the science and practice of fire protection engineering globally by advocating and supporting engineering research, technology transfer and education is critical. Thus, we hope you will consider making a year-end contribution to help us ensure we are able to provide more opportunities in 2016.
