A Message from the Editor

All,

Welcome to this year’s first issue. This is now the fourth year for the magazine and I must say that we have come a long way. I hope you the readers find all of our articles useful and interesting, the overall aim of the magazine is to provide fire safety practitioners with useful information that they can use in their day to day work. That said, we are also trying to present a wider view of fire safety and some articles are specifically introduced with that objective in mind.

In this issue you will find six very interesting articles. I would like to specially mention one of these articles; the one about smouldering peat fires. This is not a common fire safety subject as it is not related to building fire safety or anything along these lines. This however does have a very strong impact on the lives of thousands of people. It is important to understand that fire in all its forms have a significant impact on our daily lives. Sometimes we, as fire safety engineers unconsciously tend to limit ourselves to think about smoke control systems, evacuation stairs, and fire resistance. We are almost 99% orientated towards fire safety for buildings, industries, and large infrastructures. This article will likely change how you think and give you some perspective in relation to other hazards related to fire. I did find the article really interesting and I hope all of you will find it worth reading.

Finally I would like to encourage our readers to consider contributing to our articles, if you feel that you have an important subject that you would like to tell the industry, contact us.

As always, a great thanks to the people who have put in a lot of time and effort to make this issue a reality.

The next issue will come in June.

Yours sincerely,

 Jimmy Jönsson, Managing Editor
