Affiliate Chapter

Purpose Statement:  Facilitate networking, education, and local regional engagement through a variety of events, activities, and access to resources.

Framework:

  • The chapter is an independent body operating under an affiliate agreement with SFPE to be SFPE's representative in a specific region.  Must have an active affiliate agreement and 3 SFPE members.  Note: Only open to non-North American based organizations and SFPE will still offer individual membership around the globe. 
  •  Legal & Financial Aspects
    • Must have an active affiliate agreement
    • The relationship between SFPE and the chapter will be set forth in the agreement.
    • Funding is the responsibility of the chapter, which generally collect dues as well as activity fees.
  • A Leadership Team, which will vary in size based on the needs of the group, will coordinate resources and programs within the region and be in regular contact with SFPE to facilitate support and assist SFPE in promotion of its members and their efforts.
  • Each group will have the flexibility to focus on any given topic or issue appropriate to the region but will largely focus on networking, education (career or topic related), local public awareness and outreach, and local community engagement.
  • Minimum Requirement for Operating:
    • Active affiliate agreement
    • Align mission and bylaws with SFPE mission, Constitution and Bylaws
    • Have a Leadership Team
    • Have three (3) SFPE members as SFPE representatives
    • Complete SFPE Chapter annual report
    • Make no unauthorized commitments on behalf of SFPE
    • Indemnify and hold harmless

Typical steps for a New Chapter:

After the exploratory team agrees to pursue being a chapter and determines the type of chapter, the team needs to submit the following items to SFPE for approval.

  • Letter of intent to form an affiliate chapter
  • List of organizing members with three (3) who are SFPE members in good standing.
  • Governing documents appropriate to country (must align with the mission and bylaws of SFPE).
