Chapter Receives Citizenship Award

The CSRA Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers International has received the Citizenship Award for their efforts in installing residential fire sprinkler systems in four Habitat for Humanity Homes located in Beaufort, SC. The award was presented by the South Carolina Firefighter’s Association at their annual convention in Myrtle Beach, SC on July 18th. The Chapter was nominated for the award by Lt. Daniel Byrne, Beaufort Fire Department, and in his letter of congratulations he stated “Not only do I want you all to be recognized, this is a chance to tell our story and spread the word about the need for residential fire sprinklers.” Below is a picture from the Award Ceremony in which participants received plaques. SFPE Fellows

In 2007, William J. (Bill) Farmer, P.E. was elected to the grade of Fellow.  Bill is a Past President for the CSRA Chapter.  He has over 40 years of Fire Protection Engineering experience and has been a vital instument in the growth of the CSRA Chapter of SFPE.  Bill will be recognized at the SFPE Professional Development Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas, NV in October.  Congratulations Bill. 

 

Mr. Farmer has now joined the ranks of Allan Coutts, PhD, P.E. and James D. Allen, P.E.  These two men were the first two members of the CSRA Chapter to be elected to the grade of Fellow in 2006.

 

Allan has made significant contributions to the society in the technical arena by participating on the SFPE Task Group on Performance-Based Analysis and Design (Steering Committee) and for his numerous publications on the topic of risk based fire safety evaluations.

 

Jim has over 40 years of fire protection engineering experience and has been credited as the single most influential person in establishing the fire protection PE license having chaired the Engineering Registration Committee from 1980 throu 1988.

 

The CSRA Chapter is honored to have been a part of recognizing Jim, Allan and Bill for their contributions to our profession and congratulate them on their election to the Societies highest level of membership. 

 

Rolf H. Jensen Award

William “Bernie” Till, Jr.  received the 2007 SFPE Rolf H. Jensen Award at the Annual Awards Luncheon in Las Vegas.  The Rolf H. Jensen Award recognizes individuals who have shown exceptional service on an SFPE comittee in an "unselfish, extraordinary and unusual manner", exceeding expectations.

 

Mr. Till is one of the founding members of the CSRA Chapter, where he served as the first President.  Under his leadership and direction, the Chapter has received highest honors in receiving the "Gold Level Chapter of Excellence Award" for the past three years.
