Design Basis Fires

Mission

The Task Group on Design Basis Fires is charged with developing guidance on characterizing fire sources. Areas to be considered include incipient fire characteristics, fire growth rates, peak burning rates, burning duration and secondary item ignition.

Current Activity

The task group is developing an engineering guide on quantifying design bases fires. The guide will provide a methodology and process to facilitate the development of design fire curves for a given fire scenario. This guidance is extended to considerations for planning and running fire tests when acceptable data is not available.
