Call for Abstracts
Deadline for abstract submission is June 1, 2026.
The SFPE Foundation and National Research Council Canada invite researchers, practicing professionals, and experts to submit abstracts for the 2026 Emerging Energy Technologies Summit. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your innovative projects, cutting-edge research, and valuable insights in the fire protection and safety engineering field.
The abstract submission process allows the Program Committee to select presentations and posters for inclusion in the conference program. It will enable them to identify relevant and high-quality content that aligns with the objectives and highly technical focus of the conference.
Presentation abstracts should provide sufficient scope and results to determine the quality and applicability of the engineering concepts that would be presented. Presentations must be noncommercial in nature. All abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of experts and independently rated.
Abstract Deadline to Submit: June 1, 2026
Notification of Acceptance for Presentations: July 1, 2026
This event is specifically focused on engineering applications for emerging energy technologies. Lithium-ion batteries will not be a focus of this event because they are being capably addressed through other events and channels. Additionally, as this event is meant to highlight engineering-based approaches, we are specifically looking for presentations that involve the use of engineering methods. We seek proposals addressing fire protection/safety for the categories of emerging energy technologies listed below:
- Hydrogen
- Nuclear, including small modular reactors (SMRs)
- Solar, Wind, & Hybrid Renewables
- Solid-state and other battery chemistries that are alternatives to lithium-ion
- Microgrids and critical energy infrastructure
- Carbon capture facilities
- Aging/Recycling of emerging energy technologies
- Others, as appropriate
Proposals can address one or more of the following aspects of the above listed topics:
- Different applications of the listed topics in the built environment i.e. vehicle types, transit facilities, etc.
- Fire protection systems
- Hazard/risk assessment
- Explosion prevention/control
- Toxic exposure
- Standards and codes development
- Regulation and enforcement of emerging technologies
- Performance-based design
- Fire modeling
- Fire testing
- Systems perspectives
- Firefighting needs and challenges
- Artificial intelligence/machine learning
- Integration with building types i.e. BIPV and BAPV
- Insurance requirements / blind spots
- Case studies
- Or other related topics
