SFPE Pre-Conference Seminar: Sprinkler Design for Engineers

Pre-Conference: Monday & Tuesday, October 20-21 (9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.)

This two-day course is based on NFPA 13 and 20 standards. The course is designed to provide participants with the tools needed to design and install fire sprinkler systems in accordance with building and fire codes. The course will cover introductory aspects that are essential for engineers who are new to sprinkler system design, classification of the hazards and commodities to be protected, confirmation of the hydraulic date and preliminary hydraulic design, and preparation of design documentation. In addition, more advanced topics such as application of new technologies, protection of high-piled storage, and computer generated hydraulic calculations is also included. (15 PDHs)

Instructors:
Scott A. Futrell, PE, FSFPE
Kevin Hall, M.Eng., PE

Seminar Fees:

  • SFPE Members: $799.00 (early-bird rate) / $899.00 (regular rate)
  • SFPE Non-members: $1,049.00 (early-bird rate) / $1,149.00 (regular rate)
  • SFPE Student Members: $400.00 (limited availability)

Pricing is in U.S. Dollars. Registration includes lunch and coffee breaks. Early Bird Registration pricing ends September 9, 2025. Payment is required at registration to reserve your seat. Each seminar is eligible for PDH credits and a Certificate of Completion will be awarded upon completion of online assessment.

After you register for the conference, you will receive a confirmation email with a discount code for $100.00 OFF the Sprinkler Design for Engineers Seminar that you or your colleague can use to register via our learning management system. The separate registration enables SFPE to add course materials, course assessments, references, and links that the instructors want to share during the class. When you register, you will receive a confirmation email after your registration has been processed. Approximately two weeks before the conference, all seminar registrants will receive an email with onsite course details and logistics.

SFPE reserves the right to cancel a seminar up to two weeks prior to the event.

SFPE Foundation Workshop: Advanced Wildland-Urban Interface Training for the U.S. Fire Service

Pre-Conference: Tuesday, October 21 (9:00 a.m.- 4:45 p.m.)

With wildland-urban interface (WUI) fires on the rise, more fire departments are called to engage in WUI fire prevention and protection strategies, but most have significant unmet training needs in this area. The SFPE Foundation is leading a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency Fiscal Year 2023 Fire Prevention & Safety Grant-funded project to assess advanced training needs that can be addressed with engineering-based resources and guidance, document best practices, develop three modular courses on these topics, and illustrate how these courses can reduce risk by addressing unmet training needs for fire departments across the U.S.

This pre-conference workshop will present an abbreviated curriculum of three new training modules in advanced WUI fire protection topics, which will be piloted at several U.S. fire departments over the next year:

WUI Fire Dynamics
WUI Fire Modeling
Human Behavior in WUI Fires

The goal of the workshop is to seek feedback from fire engineers on the proposed advanced fire engineering WUI curriculum. It is not intended as WUI training or education for fire engineers or fire service, though many will benefit by understanding the additional challenges of fire engineering in a wildfire context. Please consider joining us to contribute your knowledge and expertise to the WUI advanced engineering curriculum development.  Attendees will be eligible for 6.5 professional development hours (PDH).

If you have any questions about workshop, please contact Lisa VanBuskirk, SFPE Foundation WUI Program Manager, at LVanBuskirk@sfpefoundation.org.

Workshop Fee:

  • Free - Please register only if you intend to attend.
