Conference Program Schedule

The organizing program committee has assembled an exceptional program agenda for the upcoming Conference, featuring 32 abstract sessions and remarkable general sessions and panels led by invited speakers. Case studies are an integral part of the PBD conference and we have 6 outstanding teams participating this year!

Featured Sessions:

  • Keynote Speaker: Wojciech Węgrzyński, PhD FPE, Professor, Instytut Techniki Budowlanej
  • General Session Speakers: Greg Baker, Fire Research Group, New Zealand & Performance-based Design Subcommittee Chair of SFPE Research, Tools & Methods (RTM) Standing Committee; Morgan Hurley, PE, FSFPE, Jensen Hughes; and Michael Stromgren, Smart Built Environment.
  • Top Abstract Selected by the program committee: A Cross Disciplinary Approach for Improving Wildfire Evacuation Planning by Amelia Pludow, MA & Darlene Rini, PE, Jensen Hughes; Grace Carsky and Matt Braughton, Kittelson & Associates, USA
  • Panel Discussions: Engineering The Future: Navigating New Regulatory Requirements; Fire Safety in Single Stair Tall Buildings, and Implementation of Fire Safety Engineering approach in Europe.

  • Case Study Presentations by international chapter teams: The primary goals of the case studies is to engage the audience in non-critical discussion, comparison and reflection of the various proposed fire and life safety strategies. For this conference, the overall Case Study theme is based upon the initial stages of a remote development to include housing, recreational and co-living/working spaces. The remote location includes very limited existing utilities and infrastructure, no existing local emergency response, and no existing locally adopted codes and standards.

Pre-Conference Tour: DBI Laboratory Tour and Fire Test

16 April (11:30 - 16:00) - $30.00 Additional Fee (Limited Capacity, Registration Required)

The Danish Institute of Fire and Security (DBI) specializes in fire and security and works to protect work lives and properties. DBI offers a wide range of services within fire prevention, fire technology, and security and aims to help their customers achieve the best safety solutions.

Join us for an exclusive experience at DBI, where attendees will explore the state-of-the-art test facilities. Witness firsthand the cutting-edge equipment integral to test procedures, gaining insights into innovative methodologies. Learn more about DBI's latest research projects and discover how they drive advancements in our field.

As a highlight, witness a live fire test, offering a dynamic demonstration of the innovative high-pressure water mist spray bar from Danfoss Fire Safety. The setup will simulate a service corridor in a hospital where fire doors have been replaced by spray bars, which are precision-engineered devices with embedded micro nozzles. You will be able to observe how the spray bar creates a high-pressure water mist curtain that controls the smoke, absorbs the heat radiation, and lowers the temperature.

The live fire test demonstration, transportation from the conference hotel, and refreshments during the tour are generously supported by DANFOSS.

Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the forefront of research and innovation within the industry!
