Travel Grant, Complimentary Registration, and WUI Risk Mitigation Course for the Fire Service.
With the support of a Fiscal Year 2024 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) Grant, the SFPE Foundation is bringing 30 U.S. fire service members to the 2026 Wildland-Urban Interface Fire Engineering Summit August 10-12 at the University of Maryland, College Park. Representing a wide range of WUI locations across the United States, the goal is to share the latest research and conversations with fire service leaders able to implement WUI policies at home.
In addition, the fire service members will attend the SFPE Foundation's "WUI Risk Assessment & Mitigation for Fire Service" course on August 13. This
WUI fire service course was developed through a Fiscal Year 2021 FEMA FP&S grant and has been taught to several hundreds of students through a National Fire Academy contract and FEMA FP&S grants. Thanks to the generous support of the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute, the course will be taught at their College Park facility.
Each selected fire service member is awarded up to $1,750 in travel grant funds and complimentary registration for the WUI Summit (an additional $650 value).
