All,

I hope you have enjoyed the summer holidays and that your batteries are fully charged again. We have a really interesting summer issue of the magazine so for those of you that are up for some interesting reading (even though you are on vacation) you are more than welcome to look into the articles. For the ones of you already working, please find some time to go through them.

I will keep this column really short, and I basically just want to touch upon two things:

  1. We are seeing a pretty strong return to face-to-face conferences again, and I wanted to point out that our SFPE Annual Conference is to be held in October (as always this is in the USA but I still strongly recommend it to all international members that has the possibility to go). Hopefully we will have left all the main COVID issues behind us so that we can interact as we used to. We also have the SFPE Europe Conference coming us soon, it will take place in Berlin in March 2023 so please mark that one in your calendars.
  2. In this issue we have gathered many good articles, some about “well-known” problems but also a few about “new” ones. We are always trying to have widespread of articles, both research, technical issues, and general engineering topics and in my mind we are getting better and better at this. I truly believe that we are increasing and sharing knowledge among us and we actually are very much in line with our SFPE Mission and SFPE Vision (see below).

Mission

To define, develop, and advance the use of engineering best practices; expand the scientific and technical knowledge base; and educate the global fire safety community, to reduce fire risk.

Vision

The leaders in engineering a fire safe world.

If there are readers out there that feel that you have an important subject that you would like to share with the industry do not hesitate to contact us, we can make that happen.

As always, a great thanks to the people who have put in a lot of time and effort to make this issue a reality.

The next issue will come in October.

Yours sincerely,
