All,

Finally, it’s time for our first issue, the first opportunity of the year for us to share knowledge and information with you all. This is our tenth year of delivering high-quality articles to all of you.

The latest SFPE strategic plan was finished at the end of last year, and it strongly focuses on Competence, Emerging technologies, and Sustainability. This will be reflected in the majority of articles that you will read during the year.  In this specific issue, our very first article is about Competence; this article was first published in 2019 but is still very valid. SFPE has since then kept on developing the core competencies and we have also developed a description for several fire protection engineering roles; work is underway to define the knowledge areas and skills required to obtain a minimum competency level in each role. Competence is a subject that we will see more of in the future.

I would also like to mention the upcoming SFPE PBD Conference in Copenhagen within a few weeks. I know that we are looking at success; there will be a lot of interesting presentations on all sorts of upcoming topics, as well as more traditional fire engineering subjects. It might be difficult for you if you have not registered yet as we are rapidly approaching the maximum participants limit.

If there are readers out there who feel that you have an important subject you would like to share with the industry, do not hesitate to contact us; we can make that happen.

As always, a great thanks to the people who have put in a lot of time and effort to make this issue a reality.

The next issue will come in June.

Yours sincerely,
