This two- day course see to address the issues around, the demand for Mass Notification Systems (MNS) which has grown among government agencies, major corporations and institutional organizations. The National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code (NFASC), NFPA 72, has been expanded to include guidance for Emergency Communications Systems (ECS), which may form a part of a more extensive Mass Notification System. Participants will learn that the in‐building emergency communications systems (ECS) may be a portion of a larger integrated system using other media and communication channels and will accept signal priority from an external source. These systems include the wireline and wireless telephone networks, broadcast and cable television, radio, Public Safety Land Mobile Radio, satellite systems and the Internet.
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Identify multiple communications channels that may be used for emergency communications.
- Understand the benefits and limitations of the available channels.
- Articulate a design plan for ECS to meet requirements of an Emergency Response Plan.
- Understand the progressive stages of events that may require ECS.
- Identify potential stakeholders in design, operation and maintenance of ECS.
- Understand signal sources and priorities.
- Become familiar with the elements of effective emergency messages.
- Solve workshop exercises in planning, design and approval of ECS
- Anticipate the needs associated with installation and maintenance of ESC.
Working knowledge of ECS
FPEs, Fire Engineers, Fire Safety Designers, Risk Management Consultants, Building Surveyors
Sample RA and ERP will be provided and used in this course to familiarize the participant with RA and ERP and the design concepts used to meet required performance. An example building drawings will be provided for workshop use. Note: The seminar will not teach methods of risk analysis or the development of emergency response planning.
Participants will be assessed via a written test upon completion of the course. A passing score of 70% will be required to obtain a Certificate of Completion
