Pre-Conference Seminar: Substantiating the Suitability of a Fire Model

Starts:  Apr 7, 2025 13:00 (UTC)
Ends:  Apr 8, 2025 17:00 (UTC)

April 7th and 8th, 2025. This one and a half day course delves into the critical process of model substantiation in the field of engineering, focusing on fire models and their evolving capabilities. Participants will gain an understanding of the key steps in model substantiation, covering problem definition, model selection, and verification and validation processes. The course emphasizes recognizing criteria for evaluating fire models, assessing factors influencing model choice, and navigating project constraints in the selection process. Participants will also become proficient in applying the Fire Model Substantiation Flow Chart and understanding the intricate relationship between initial and boundary conditions. The course addresses strategies for handling uncertainty in fire modeling and provides a high-level overview of modeling types, including their assumptions, limitations, and unique advantages and disadvantages. Notably, the course does not offer instruction on specific modeling software, methods, or tools.
