All,

Finally, it’s time for our first issue, the first opportunity of the year for us to share knowledge and information with you all. This is our ninth year of delivering high-quality articles to all of you.

This year you will notice that we will try to focus a bit more on Emerging technologies and on Sustainability (these are often closely related). I believe most of you are aware of these issues' impact on our industry and profession. Sustainability-driven technologies, construction methods, materials, etc. are developing at such a high pace that we cannot keep up with it, both from a fire engineering point of view and a fire legislation point of view.

I would also like to mention the upcoming SFPE European Conference to be held in Berlin, this upcoming week. I am certain that we are looking at success; there will be a lot of interesting presentations on all sort of upcoming topics but also about the more traditional fire engineering subjects. If you have not registered yet take this message a friendly reminder to sign up and meet us in Berlin.

In this issue, we have a widespread of different topics, some of which I considered very closely related to what I mentioned above, Emerging technologies & Sustainability. There is a need for us to start to take these topics a lot more into consideration and simply just start to work on them (read plan ahead for them).

If there are readers out there that feel that you have an important subject that you would like to share with the industry do not hesitate to contact us, we can make that happen.

As always, a great thanks to the people who have put in a lot of time and effort to make this issue a reality.

The next issue will come in June.

Yours sincerely,
