Dear SFPE Europe members, 

Welcome to the first issue of SFPE Europe Magazine in 2023. Financial advisors have led us to believe that this year will bring a steady recovery from the turmoil of recent years. No one seems to have seen the gray clouds coming in the banking sector. I hope this won't hit us too hard.

We welcome Jimmy Jönsson in his new role as President of SFPE. It is good timing to have a European President while the 5th SFPE European Conference will be held in Berlin on March 29-30, 2023. We are very pleased with the conference program, speakers and social events. It will be a great conference: If you haven't registered yet and would still like to attend, you have the option to register to attend virtually, no matter where you are in Europe or the world. The day before the conference, on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, the SFPE Europe Board of Directors will first have the opportunity to meet the entire SFPE Board from 10:00 to 12:00. A joint lunch will be followed by the 2nd European Chapter Leadership Forum (14:00-15:30) with all SFPE Europe Chapter Leaders and the 6th SFPE Europe General Assembly (16:00-17:30). This will be followed by a cocktail reception to which all conference participants are invited. A big thank you to the Program Committee and SFPE staff for organizing a great conference. The organization of this conference went very smoothly! A big thank you also goes to the sponsors and exhibitors. We were successful in expanding the sponsor base for this conference.

We are very pleased to have been invited by the JRC Fire Safety Engineering (FSE) Experts Network to keep them informed about SFPE activities and to present the highlights and conclusions of the SFPE European Conference in Berlin at their next meeting.
