Welcome

A Message from the SFPE Europe Chair
Dear SFPE Europe Members and Fire Safety Enthusiasts,
The SFPE European Conference & Expo on Fire Safety Engineering was arranged in Edinburgh, UK, April 9-10, 2025. It was a success with a lot of excellent presentations and discussions. During the event two European SFPE Awards were announced, and we celebrated the Awardees accordingly. I think the work of these two Awardees in the fire safety engineering area is extraordinary, so I am happy to spread the motivation for the awards to you in this forum.
SFPE European Fire Safety Engineering Award 2025: Wojciech Węgrzyński
Motivation: “Associate Professor Wojciech Węgrzyński embodies the SFPE mission, serving as a symbol of positive engagement in the fire safety community. For almost four years, he has shared fire science with engineers worldwide through his Fire Science Show—all while excelling as a researcher, published author, manager of a major testing facility, and representative of SFPE and IAFSS. Through his research, advocacy, and community participation, he has become a leading voice for improved fire safety, dedicated to building a safer world.”
SFPE European Fire Safety Engineering Lifetime Achievement Award 2025: Dougal Drysdale
Motivation: “Professor Emeritus Dougal Drysdale's dedication to the field makes him a truly deserving recipient of the inaugural European Fire Safety Engineering Lifetime Achievement Award. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been an active contributor to organizations such as SFPE and IAFSS, playing a pivotal role in advancing fire research across multiple disciplines. Moreover, his seminal publication, An Introduction to Fire Dynamics, has served as a foundational text for generations of fire safety engineers since its first edition was published in 1985.”

I wish you all a happy spring!
Robert McNamee
