  • Member Webinar: Healthcare Facilities – A Holistic Fire Protection Approach

    Member Webinar Series

    Oct 25, 11:00 - 12:00 (ET)
Hospitals and related health care facilities have unique challenges and hazards resulting from inpatients who may be unable to evacuate themselves as a result of their medical conditions. Evacuation of all patients throughout the facility who are incapable of self-preservation is not a realistic expectation. In such instances, a defend-in-place approach is employed. A successful defend-in-place strategy relies on a Total Concept that requires careful coordination all the fire and life safety systems. Establishment of fire/smoke compartmentation, coordination of fire protection systems and other building systems, and coordination of emergency response procedures are critical aspects of this Total Concept approach. This presentation will review key fire protection considerations in healthcare facilities and how such considerations contribute to the holistic defend-in-place fire protection approach, including use of case study examples.

  • Temporary Fire Protection Solutions: Emergency Notification and Remote Monitoring

    Perspective Webinar Series

    Oct 27, 13:00 - 14:00 (ET)
Perspective Webinar Series - Sponsored by Xylem Temporarily installed fire protection pump systems are becoming more common when permanent equipment is down for an emergency or scheduled repair. New technology now allows end users to monitor temporary fire protection systems remotely via computer, tablet or smartphone. This webinar will discuss : What signals are required to be monitored by NFPA 20 What information is available remotely from Xylem rental units Different platforms for viewing information: desktop, tablet, smartphone. Alerts, texts, emails, sequential “call list” for notifications

  • Live Perspective Webinar: Designing Sprinkler Systems for Longevity and Easy Maintenance

    Perspective Webinar Series

    Nov 5, 11:00 - 12:00 (ET)
Sponsored by AGF As a property owner or facility manager, protecting your investment is imperative. Fire sprinkler systems are a key component to that protection. Despite the name, dry pipe fire sprinkler systems often fail due to freezing, improper maintenance or vandalism leaving property and occupants at risk. Wet systems often fail from leaks or blockages caused by corrosion. Building owners and managers are finding that prevention is the cheapest, quickest, and easiest way to avoid system degradation and failure. AGF’s COLLECTanDRAIN auxiliary drains meet code and simplify maintenance to protect dry systems against damage. AGF’s PURGEnVENT air vents release trapped air in wet systems to help prevent corrosion and thus extend system life.

  • Tall Mass Timber Buildings & Fire Service Concerns

    Fire Service

    Nov 10, 13:00 - 14:30 (ET)
Sponsored by the Fire Service Subcommittee Presented by Raymond O'Brocki This webinar introduces firefighters and fire inspectors to tall mass timber (TMT) buildings (that can be constructed up to 18 stories in some cases), the history of cross laminated timber (CLT), how it is made and its properties. The webinar will outline the new code requirements in the International Building Code (IBC) and discuss the extensive fire testing that was conducted. The presentation will also address specific fire service concerns.

  • Live Member Webinar: Equivalent Protection Schemes for Fire Sprinkler Systems Full-Scale Fire Testi

    Member Webinar Series

    Nov 15, 11:00 - 12:00 (ET)
The Equivalent Protection Schemes for Fire Sprinkler Systems Full-Scale Fire Testing for Performance-Based Fire Protection case study will focus on the need to consider performance-based, full-scale fire testing as an alternate and equivalent to prescriptive-based fire sprinkler design criteria. We will review operational compliance issues; evaluating and identifying actual hazards, advantages, challenges, and opportunities that can arise in performance-based, full-scale fire testing. We will explore examples of prescriptive requirements and compare that to real world actual conditions. We will review the opportunities and pitfalls of using a performance-based approach in lieu of application of prescriptive criteria. Performance-based criteria provides the opportunity for superior fire protection while allowing operational flexibility.
